Chilean civil servants and government haven’t come to an agreement. After four hours of negotiations, civil servants have refused the government’s last offer of a 3.5% pay raise – plus bonuses. The workers requested an 8 per cent pay raise, and are still on strike.
The head of the Federation of Chilean Industry said he worried that this movement would affect Chile’s image of reliability.

Chilean minister for the environment Ana Lya Uriarte launched a national campaign against climate change, called “Chile needs people from another planet”.
The campaign will include TV spots, billboards, print advertisements and an educational website to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of climate change in the country.
Uriarte said that developed countries were largely responsible for global warming, and that Chile would commit to limit its carbon emissions only if developed countries provide financial support.
The four candidates to the upcoming presidential election took part in a live TV debate last night.
The format allowed the candidates to question one another directly, which generated a series of personal criticisms. The debate came fourth in the ranking of TV viewers, with 14 per cent of Chileans following the discussion.
A sixteen-year old boy caused a serious incident in a Metro station yesterday. He injured a staff member with a machete, before threatening passengers on the platform and shooting a gun in the air.
