Julie Gibson is an environmental advocate as well as an advocate for the health of our community and especially our children. Originally from the Pacific Northwest she has lived for the past three years in Santiago, Chile, where she has two concrete objectives: first is to educate parents and the public at large about dangerous toxic chemicals in our environment, homes and schools, and to help us find healthy alternatives. Her second goal is to serve as a voice in shaping policy decisions that affect us and the environment.
Julie Gibson has entered a contest through the Huffington Post to become a citizen journalist for Hopenhagen. Hopenhagen is a movement to connect every person, every city, and every nation to Copenhagen. The hope is that in Copenhagen this December -- during the United Nations Climate Change Conference -- we can build a better future for our planet. The goal for the COP15 is to limit future carbon emissions and minimize the effects of climate change as well as fuel the transition to a sustainable green economy. However, change will not happen unless we demand it. That is why Hopenhagen exists. It gives us the tools to demand a positive outcome in Copenhagen. This is a people’s movement, with enough people involved our leaders cannot ignore it.
As your ambassador in Copenhagen, Julie will be representing you to the media and at official events throughout the week, reporting on events in blogs and video posts. But first she needs each and every one of you to vote for her and then send it on to all your social networks. With your support we can send Julie Gibson to Copenhagen.
HuffPost in conjunction with Hopenhagen.org is sending one person to Copenhagen for the UN Climate Change Conference to both represent concerns of people around the world and to report back daily as a HuffPost citizen journalist. To learn more about the contest and to throw your hat into the ring, check out the Hopenhagen Ambassador info page.
Candidates’ videos will be posted below in the order they’re received, which means early entrants will be shown on the video slideshow below before those who wait until the last minute to send in their video. We encourage candidates to gather endorsements from notable blogs and environmental organizations that might lend weight to one’s candidacy. You’ll see the endorsers listed below each candidate’s video, which denotes that the organization or blog has publicly supported the candidate by linking to their video page on this slideshow.
