A total of 12 outstanding Chilean students between 15-18 years old, from public and semi-public schools will be able to travel to the United States for three weeks invited by the program Youth Ambassadors.
The initiative, that is organized for the third time in Chile by Partners of the Americas –a private non-profit entity— and the U.S. embassy in Santiago, will select through a reference contest, students from low income sectors from all the country that have outstanding academic excellence, leadership, social and voluntary compromise, good levels of verbal and written English, and who have not traveled abroad.
The deadline to apply to the contest is December 15, 2009. Winners will be informed on January 8, 2010.
The selected students will travel for three weeks to the U.S. in two groups, in March and September 2010, and will have the chance to visit the capital of the U.S., Washington, D.C., and then visit the State of Washington on the Pacific coast, that is the sister state of Chile under the program Partners of the Americas. During the trips, the students will also have the chance to share experiences with youth from similar delegations from countries of the region.
During the last part of the trip, they will live with a host family, will go to school and will participate with American youth in cultural, social and voluntary activities.
To participate in the contest, those interested will have to fill up a participation form, present the requested documents, and turn in these documents at receiving offices in each region of the country, until December 15.
The form to participate is available in the embassy web page: (http://chile.usembassy.gov o http://spanish.chile.usembassy.gov/) and in Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/usdos.chile). Also, in these web pages is the list of receiving offices located in all the regions of the country and an informative document about the contest.
