Chilean President Michelle Bachelet passed a disability law on Wednesday. The previous disability law in Chile, in affect since 1994, worked only to incorporate those with disabilities into the social system.  Under the new, updated, law there will be a greater focus on creating equal opportunities and social integration for those with disabilities in the hope it will reduce discrimination against them.  The new law will be beneficial to more than two million Chileans who suffer from some degree of disability.

Chilean Investigation Police, or PDI, arrested a woman for distributing child pornography. Marta Lagos Frías, a 34-year-old woman, was arrested after the PDI found she was part of a child pornography network operating in Argentina. After a one-month investigation by the PDI Sex Crimes Squad, Frías was finally held on Wednesday on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography material. The woman will go on trial this Friday.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children called on President-elect Sebastián Piñera this week. The Association Chairwoman, María Soledad Ray, said the Government cannot consider the educators of young children to be in a second-category job. The Association members requested for Piñera to improve the training, development and retirement conditions for this profession. The Education of Young Children major was created in 1965 by the Universidad de Chile with the intention of promoting the educational, physical and emotional skills in children.

Viña del Mar modernized the traditional beach of Acapulco. The Real Estate Company, Valparaíso, invested 800 million Chilean pesos in the modernization of the Acapulco beach located in Viña, near the Vergara pier. The plans included the construction of a new restaurant, an ice-cream parlor and the implementation of restrooms and showers.  In addition, the project contemplated adding a 24-hour monitoring system, physical education teachers for tourists and visitors, lifeguards and a sand sweeper to keep the beach clean. The Real Estate Company said this project will enhance the tourism in the city as it will attract more national and international tourists.
