President Bachelet cut the tape Thursday January 11th 2010 on the 3.8km extension of Metro Line 1 from Escuela Militar to a new station at Los Dominicos in Las Condes. Balfour Beatty laid the track for the US$245 million project, which includes three new stations and will cater for an estimated 52,000 passengers a day.
Balfour Beatty already built Lines 4 and 4A, as well as the 5.8km extension of Line 5 from Quinta Normal to Pudahuel. Later this year it will complete a further 8.2km of track linking Pudahuel to Maipu, cutting travel times and reducing congestion on Line 1.
